DCTE
DCTE (Dawn Chorus Trapping Enterprise) was formed as a subsidiary of Picton Dawn Chorus and Kaipūpū Sanctuary in 2019.
They provide quality effective trap boxes for Picton Dawn Chorus but also supply to a range of similar organisations, particularly in the South Island.
TRAP BOXES
Standard length or Weka length rat boxes & Tracking tunnels, with or without stainless steel trap mechanism.
Since formation, DTCTE traps continue to be refined for easy management by our trapline volunteers. They are easy to operate for all ages and levels of experience. Boxes are produced by volunteers, with proceeds from sales donated to Picton Dawn Chorus.
Weka proof are made with extra length to prevent weka reaching the trap mechanism.
We also exceed the DOC minimum recommended distance from entry to trap to add safety for future Kiwi populations.
TRAP MAKING
Traps are made, in bulk, by a team of trap building volunteers. This social enterprise group meets to build whenever there are orders to fill.
Trap Making Days can result in the production of up to 100 traps from their Picton workshop.
