Project T.R.A.P

Trapping for Restoration and Protection

We launched Project TRAP in December 2024. In just one year, 177 traps have been installed across our area – made possible through community donations and grant funding. Each trap now costs around $640 to purchase, install, and maintain.
The AT220 traps are our most effective tool to protect native birds.

  • Only need servicing every 4–6 months, making them ideal for hard-to-reach areas
  • These traps are about one thing: giving our birds a fighting chance.
  • Reset automatically, ready for multiple pests
  • Use a safe, non-toxic lure that works every night
  • Dispense fresh lure nightly, creating trails that attract more pests over time

THE GOAL

We’re fundraising to purchase 500 self-resetting AT220 auto traps. These devices need checking only twice a year and consistently outperform our older models. Since launching in December 2024, Project T.R.A.P. has already funded 170 traps, bringing our total AT220s to 211.

$640 funds one trap. This covers the unit, installation, and ongoing maintenance.
Smaller contributions still count – anything under $640 supports our wider conservation mahi and helps us with our goal of ‘Restoring our birdlife together’.

WHY THESE TRAPS MATTER

Upgrading to AT220 traps helps Picton Dawn Chorus volunteers cut predator numbers faster and more effectively.
This, in turn enables us to free up staff and volunteer time for the hardest lines, which helps strengthen the health of our forests and boost native bird populations.

This upgrade changes the scale of what we can achieve – long-term, consistent, and far more efficient predator control.
